Porto Joins the LOT Polish Airlines Route Map

LOT’s new direct flights from Warsaw to Porto will begin on 25 May 2026. During the summer season, the service will run five times weekly – on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays. Flights will depart Warsaw at 10:20 a.m., arriving in Porto at 1:25 p.m. The return service will leave Porto at 2:25 p.m. and land in Warsaw at 7:10 p.m. In the winter season, the route will operate four times per week: on Tuesdays, Thursdays, Fridays and Sundays, maintaining the same timetable. The journey to Porto will take around 4 hours and 5 minutes; the return flight will take approximately 3 hours and 45 minutes. All services will be operated by Boeing 737 MAX 8 aircraft.

Situated at the mouth of the Douro River, Porto is the second-largest city in Portugal and one of its oldest. Its name derives from the Latin Portus Cale – an ancient settlement that ultimately gave the country its name. The city is also known as A Invicta, meaning ‘The Unconquered’ – a proud title referring to the 19th-century siege during which Porto never surrendered to royalist forces and successfully preserved its independence. The name still appears today on local emblems and promotional slogans. Strategically located on the coast, Porto played a key role in maritime trade for centuries. Today, it stands as a vibrant centre of business and tourism.

Porto charms with its stunning architecture and the vibrant atmosphere of its riverside lanes. The city’s emblem, the double-deck Dom Luís I Bridge, links Porto with Vila Nova de Gaia and offers sweeping views of both the old town and the Douro River. Explore baroque landmarks like the Torre dos Clérigos or the neoclassical Palácio da Bolsa and step back into the grandeur of old Portugal. Don’t miss Livraria Lello – one of the world’s most beautiful bookshops – whose interior inspired J.K. Rowling’s vision of the Harry Potter universe. Then there’s the 19th-century São Bento railway station, where Portugal’s history is told in 20,000 azulejo tiles. Finally, the riverside district of Ribeira, with its colourful houses and welcoming restaurants, paints a picture of a city that leaves a lasting impression on everyone who visits.

Porto’s global renown stems largely from its namesake wine, aged in the cellars of Vila Nova de Gaia across the Douro River. Traditionally served in small glasses either as an aperitif or alongside desserts, it’s often paired with cheese or chocolates to bring out its rich sweetness. Local cuisine combines straightforward preparation with bold flavour. A must-try is the city’s iconic dish, francesinha – a hearty sandwich featuring various meats, cheese, egg, and a distinctive tomato-beer sauce, typically served with chips. Fresh fish and seafood are also menu staples at local eateries.

Porto is the perfect base for exploring northern Portugal. Just a short trip away is the breathtaking Douro Valley – a UNESCO-listed region of terraced vineyards flowing down to the riverbank. This picturesque area offers opportunities for wine tastings, boat cruises or scenic train rides through the countryside. Along the coast, nearby towns such as Foz do Douro and Matosinhos offer wide sandy beaches and excellent conditions for seaside walks, surfing or simply relaxing by the ocean.

LOT is continuing to grow its footprint across Iberia. From summer 2026, the airline will double the number of weekly flights from Warsaw to Madrid and Barcelona, bringing each route to 14 services per week.

The expanded Warsaw-Madrid schedule will take effect on 29 March 2026. With the additional flights, passengers will have two daily options for travelling to Spain’s capital. In addition to the existing 10:40 a.m. departure from Warsaw, a new evening flight at 7:40 p.m. will be introduced. Return flights from Madrid will operate at 6:00 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.

Flights to Barcelona will also increase starting 1 June 2026, with a new afternoon service. LOT will operate two daily flights from Warsaw – departing at 8:30 a.m. and 1:50 p.m. Return flights from Barcelona are scheduled at 12:35 p.m. and 6:00 p.m.

As part of its continued Iberian expansion, LOT also announced new services last week from Kraków. Starting 30 March 2026, passengers will be able to fly directly from the Małopolska capital to both Madrid and Barcelona.
